The Williams County Commissioners meeting was held at 9:00 a.m. on April 29th, to discuss a full slate of issues ranging from infrastructure funding to regional air service improvements.

The meeting began with the approval of minutes from the April 17th session and the day’s agenda. Under old business, the Commissioners approved the payment of bills before moving into a detailed review of new business items.

A series of resolutions were passed focusing on appropriations for various departments and advancing funds for the Alvordton Sewer Project.

Following, a resolution authorized an agreement with the City of Bryan regarding Emergency Services, Squad 31, and extended the 2024 Autopsy Agreement with Lucas County.

Public services received attention, including several reimbursement requests sent from the JFS. Commissioners also appointed new members to the Board of Directors for Northwest Township Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones.

Community projects included early planning for the planting of a Princeton Elm tree in collaboration with the Sons of the American Revolution. The tree is already around six to seven feet tall and is expected to grow to a staggering sixty feet!

The Commissioners also coordinated with the National Day of Prayer to hold an event hosted by the Bryan Area Ministerial Association for the 250th Anniversary.

Additional items addressed signage policies and public right-of-way permissions for an upcoming fiber optic installation.

Dave Newcomer presented an in-depth airport update, highlighting a potential investment for an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). This system would provide real-time data on wind, weather, and storm activity to pilots.

Newcomer mentioned that this has been a long-term goal for him and his crew. An airport consultant, Steve Potoczak, spoke on the infrastructure needs and federal funding eligibility, noting that improvements could boost regional charter flight viability.

Proposed site upgrades include a runway clearing and relocations of fencing to accommodate FAA safety standards.

An Investment Advisory report was briefly given by Treasurer, Kellie Gray, which reported no major change in business.

The Commissioner’s Tuesday meeting was concluded with announcements about several upcoming events, including a May 1st community CHIP program update, a May 6th NWO Juvenile Detention Annual Meeting, and a May 13th “Coffee with Commissioners” at the Stryker Senior Center.

The meeting was then followed by an executive session regarding pending legal matters, ending at 11:01 a.m.
