The Metamora Village Council convened for its regular meeting on Monday, May 19, to address various community matters, including recreation, infrastructure, zoning, and finances.

Mayor Cathy Mossing commenced the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance before the council swiftly approved routine items, such as the minutes from the May 5 session.

Subsequently, the council deliberated on property concerns on Maple Street, resolving to have the village attorney draft a formal letter detailing repair requirements, contact attempts, and a timeline for completion. Communication regarding this matter will be managed by the mayor, who will liaise with Attorney Bob Bohmer.

Early in the meeting, Shane Ruetz presented a request on behalf of the local summer volleyball league, which the council unanimously approved.

The league’s continued use of the village park for the upcoming season was sanctioned, with a rental agreement to be prepared and a key to be provided before the June 11 start date.

The council also voted to contribute to The Village Reporter’s special edition commemorating Fulton County’s 175th anniversary by purchasing a quarter-page advertisement for $200.

Regarding park infrastructure, the council members endorsed an internet service proposal from Starlink, contingent on securing the anticipated monthly and equipment costs. This service would support camera systems within the park to enhance security.

Village Fiscal Officer Heather Lumbrezer clarified that no separate health permit is required for the Party in the Park food offerings.

The council authorized the creation of a new expense account for sidewalk rehabilitation work and approved transferring $6,000 to cover invoices from Mannik & Smith. Routine bill payments were also sanctioned.

During the committee reports, it was noted that a new awning and door had been installed at the maintenance shop. Council member Lee Ann Miller is coordinating volunteer efforts to serve chicken dinners at Party in the Park.

In new business, the council passed Ordinance #2025-11 under emergency measures to amend appropriations and increase revenue for the current fiscal year. The measure was approved unanimously via roll call vote.

Village Administrator and Zoning Inspector Jeff Pawlaczyk reported on several zoning issues. A permit application was submitted for 423 E. Main Street, and he plans to inspect the site. Meanwhile, 252 Maple remained unresolved following a denied application and pending variance.

A recent submission for 1195 Wildflower could not proceed as proposed, necessitating further follow-up.

Additionally, there is a need to address a fence permit request at 16372 State Route 64. Interest was also expressed in 252 Shawnee, prompting inquiries about propane tank regulations.

On the utility front, Mayor Mossing will reach out to S. Borck for investigation into a continuously running lift-station pump, with the hope that reversing the motor may dislodge a blockage.

Additional motions approved by the council included the sale of old computer equipment on GovDeals, waiving the shelter rental fee for the Metamora Chamber of Commerce’s July meeting, authorizing up to $3,500 for road spray patching by JB Pavement, and proceeding with Option 1 from Mannik & Smith for the Garnsey Avenue bridge replacement.

The meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m. The next meeting will be June 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
