CLYDE (May 29, 2025) – Lexington struck early against Bryan’s Thea Staten and then rode the dominant performance of their own pitcher Makaree Chapman, who held Bryan to just three hits for a 6-1 win and regional championship.

Staten struck out two of the first four batters she faced but walked Alexis Cantrell and hit Chapman to create a two on with two out situation in the first inning.

Mariana Molton then delivered the big blow as she sent a three-run shot over the left field fence to put the Lady Lex in front 3-0.

Lexington added two more runs with two outs in the second inning to grow their lead.

Staten issued a bases loaded walk to force in a run and Molton would drive in her fourth run of the game after hitting into a fielder’s choice where everybody was safe to increase the lead to 5-0.

Lexington would get their final run of the day in the third on a single, sacrifice bunt and an error in the outfield by the Bears to make it 6-0.

Bryan manufactured their lone run of the game in the fourth as Amiyah Langham drew a walk, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a ground out by Averyann Fisher.

After the rocky first three innings, Staten retired Lexington in order in each of the last four innings, including recording her 300th strikeout of the season in the fifth and didn’t allow a hit the rest of the game.

Chapman was doing the same for the Lexington as she would tally six strikeouts after Bryan’s run in the fourth and finished the day with 12 strikeouts.

Staten racked up 15 strikeouts in taking the loss with Langham accounting for two of the three Bryan hits with a pair of singles.
