The annual Turkey Shoot returns to the Delta American Legion on the morning of Saturday, October 18, bringing with it a long-standing tradition of fun, food, and community spirit.

Signups began at 9:30 a.m., and the first round kicked off at 10:00 a.m. with ten people stepping up to the line at a time. For just $4 a round, each participant took a shot, and the BB closest to the bullseye determined the winner.

Those who came out on top walked away with prizes such as turkeys, bacon, and sausage, making the morning both exciting and rewarding for those taking part.

Now in its fifth year, the event has grown into a family-oriented gathering rather than a competitive shoot. It’s a chance for friends and neighbors to come together, enjoy some good-natured fun, and maybe take home something tasty for the dinner table.

Food and refreshments were also available throughout the morning, keeping everyone warm and fed as the event progressed.

A total of ten rounds took place, including a special mystery shoot. During this unique round, 25 targets were set up on one paper, and whichever target came closest to the bullseye was matched with the corresponding number on the signup sheet to determine the winner. It added an extra layer of excitement, as no one knew who would take home the prize until the very end.

In addition to the shooting rounds, a firearms raffle was held through The Lead Shed in Wauseon, providing attendees with another opportunity to participate in the festivities.

The Turkey Shoot typically wraps up around noon, and this year’s schedule will continue for two more weekends, with additional shoots planned for October 25 and November 1. Following those events, the Legion will cap off the season with its annual Feather Party the weekend after.

With a friendly atmosphere and plenty of prizes to go around, the Turkey Shoot has become a cherished fall tradition in Delta, drawing families and friends back year after year.
