ARCHBOLD (February 27, 2026) – The Coldwater Cavaliers secured the Division V sectional title and their place in the district semifinals after holding on to defeat the Archbold Bluestreaks, 59-43.
The game started neck and neck, with the teams tying at two and four before the Cavaliers took a 12-4 lead thanks to a pair of baskets and a free throw from sophomore Jack Bruns along with a trey from senior Caleb Schroer.
Archbold fought back to a one-point deficit at 14-13 thanks largely to sophomore Wyatt Gericke, who put in four free throws and a three-pointer, but Coldwater nailed buzzer-beating shot from two thirds of the court away to end the quarter with a 17-13 lead.
After trading treys, the Cavaliers seized the momentum, going on an 11-point run including two baskets from junior Josh Schroer and a basket and three from Bruns to put them up 31-16.
The Bluestreaks ended the half with four free throws to narrow the gap to 31-20. When play resumed in the third quarter, both teams played with a renewed defensive vigor, stretching out the length of each possession and limiting the other’s shots.
A three from Coldwater senior Landon Knapke was eventually followed up with one from Archbold sophomore Tripp Langenderfer, itself followed immediately by a Bluestreak steal and another three.
A handful of baskets on both sides maintained the Cavaliers’ lead at 41-30 going into the final period.
Just over halfway through the quarter, following a pair of Archbold layups and three baskets from Coldwater, the opponents engaged in a flurry of scoring over six consecutive possessions.
Bluestreak sophomores Morgan Harris and Maddox Pinter each put in a trey, split by one from unguarded Cavalier sophomore Nolan Gruss.
An immediate Coldwater basket was itself immediately followed by another Archbold three from Cline, maintaining the away team’s nine-point lead at 52-43.
It would be the last scoring for the Bluestreaks, with the Cavaliers going on a seven-point run largely via fouls on Archbold players, resulting in several trips to the free throw line and a victory for Coldwater, 59-43.
