Courtroom chaos and comedy filled Giffey Hall in Ridgeville Corners as 12 Incompetent Jurors, written by Ian McWethy, was performed February 26, 27, and 28 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on March 1 at 2:30 p.m.
The production delivered a sharp parody of the classic courtroom drama 12 Angry Men, turning a serious deliberation into an evening of exaggerated personalities and rapid-fire humor.
The story centered on what appeared to be a straightforward case. A man stood accused of abducting half a dozen cats, and the evidence seemed overwhelming.
On the surface, the case looked open and shut. The complication, however, was the jury itself.
Rather than a composed panel of rational decision makers, the twelve jurors included a dim-witted public relations representative, a constantly bickering couple, and a man more focused on French fries than the facts of the case.
As deliberations unfolded, personalities clashed, and logic often gave way to absurdity.
At the center of the debate was Juror Number 8, an aspiring attorney determined to argue that the so-called Cat Burglar might be innocent. His efforts to sway the group were met with resistance, particularly from Juror Number 3, who presented himself as the only reasonable voice in the room and insisted the accused was clearly guilty.
The result was a lively and fast-paced performance that highlighted how bias, distraction, and ego can influence group decision-making. Audiences were treated to a blend of satire and physical comedy as the jurors struggled to reach a verdict.
The show offered local theatergoers a lighthearted evening of entertainment while playfully examining the dynamics of persuasion and peer pressure within the jury room.
