Despite finishing as runner-up to perennial powerhouse Bowling Green, the Bryan Bear-A-Cudas swim team put together a solid performance in the Greater Northwest Ohio Aquatic Conference Meet held Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12, at Moore Park Pool in Bryan.
Bowling Green won the title with 2,438 points, followed by Bryan (2,291), Napoleon (1,990), Putnam County YMCA (1,088), Wauseon Wahoos (976) and Defiance-Ayersville Blue Dolphins (425).
The Bear-A-Cudas racked up 32 first place finishes in the two-day event, led by Nora Kunsman, who competed in her final GNOAC meet before continuing her swimming career at Ohio University next year, winning eight different events.
Competing in the 17-over girls division, Kunsman claimed five first place victories in the 100 back (1:09.92), 100 freestyle (1:01.38), 100 fly (1:18.76), 200 freestyle (2:18.30) and 50 freestyle (27.78).
In the 18-under girls division, Kunsman won the 100 backstroke (1:09.36), 100 freestyle (1:02.67) and 200 freestyle (2:20.90).
Griffin Boehm also made his own mark, combining for six first place finishes, four of those coming in the 15-16-year boys division. He won the 100 backstroke (1:05.03), 100 freestyle (58.15), 100 fly (1:05.57), and 200 IM (2:26.89).
In the 18-under boys division, Boehm claimed the 100 fly (1:06.83) and 200 IM (2:28.84) events.
Sheniah Miller put together quite a performance in the girls’ 8-under division, winning in four individual events and anchoring the 100 medley relay to a first place finish.
Miller captured the 50 freestyle (45.00), 25 freestyle (21.42), 25 fly (26.72), and 100 freestyle (1:53.42). She, along with Ambria Langham, Claire Green and Karina Rodriguez, won the 100 medley relay (1:53.58).
Olivia Doty had an outstanding effort in the girls’ 9-10 division as she captured three individual titles and helped lead the 200 medley relay to a conference title.
Doty swept the 50 freestyle (33.48) and 100 freestyle (1:16.10) along with the 50 backstroke (42.53). She, along with Reagan Wilhelm, Claire Kunsman and Addeleigh Decker, won the 200 medley relay in 3:16.43.
Also winning individual conference titles for the Bear-A-Cudas were Ivy Mantel in the 9-10 girls 100 breaststroke (53.39), Claire Kunsman in the 9-10 girls 100 IM (1:41.31), and Annie Kunsman in the 15-16 girls 50 freestyle (29.55).
Louis Zimmerman and Levi Caryer finished in a tie for first place in the 17-over boys 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:17.11.
In the relay events, the girls 8-under 100 freestyle relay of Langham, Green, Kynlee Suffel and Rodriguez (1:45.43), the boys 15-over 200 medley relay of Zimmerman, Caryer, Will McCann and Carter Luce (2:06.58), and the 400 freestyle relay of Dylan Tressler, Luce, McCann and Joshua Sampson (4:06.03) all claimed conference titles.
Wauseon claimed six individual conference titles led by Cruz Avina and Malachi Reeder, both of whom won a pair of individual events to lead the Wahoos.
Competing in the boys 11-12 division, Avina captured the 100 freestyle (1:16.47) and 50 fly (36.75). Reeder won the 17-over boys 50 freestyle (26.03) and the 100 freestyle (56.86) in the 18-under boys division.
Also capturing individual titles for Wauseon were Darien Jennings in the boys 11-12 50 breaststroke (45.18) and Julia Bourn, who won the 100 fly (1:17.99) in the girls’ 13-14 division.
