ARCHBOLD, OHIO – Northwest State Community College looks forward to working with seven educational partners to implement a $1 million grant program as the lead institution. The grant from the Ohio Board of Regents Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills Program (RAPIDS) was established to provide workforce development efforts for the region.
Utilizing this funding the grant partners are developing training programs and equipment that will be portable and can be brought to various sites throughout the region for workforce training. The training will support manufacturing plants, food-processing plants, refineries, power plants, water treatment facilities and more. The training will involve Mechatronics, Process Control, and Cyber-security.
“This grant provides a wonderful opportunity for Northwest State and our partners to combine efforts and knowledge that will strengthen workforce development options for industries in northwest Ohio,” stated Todd Hernandez, Vice President for Innovation at Northwest State. “We are pleased to be able to coordinate this effort in bringing everyone together to build training programs that support the immediate needs both educationally and logistically for our regional business community.”
The RAPIDS grant will provide funding to develop training materials and purchase the equipment that will be housed in two training trailers that will be used as portable classrooms that can move to various sites as needed. The trailers will be housed at University of Toledo Scott Park Campus when not in use.
The RAPIDS grant is a combined effort between University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, Penta Career Center (Rossford), Vantage Career Center (Van Wert), Terra State Community College (Fremont), Rhodes State College (Lima), Owens Community College (Perrysburg) and Northwest State Community College (Archbold).
