The Jefferson Township Trustees met in a regular session on Monday, Aug. 3. Trustees present were Brian Batterson, Scott Oberlin and Austin Poynter. Fiscal Officer Linda Beck and Road Supervisor/Cemetery Sexton Mark Bowers were also present.

Poynter called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., followed by the approval of the July 20 meeting minutes.

Trustees addressed concerns regarding the delay in chip-and-seal road work in the township despite noting they have not yet received a response from Ward Construction of Leipsic.

The chip-and-seal work covers three miles of roads including County Road 17.75 (1.25 miles) and County Road J (1.75 miles). They hope the work can be completed by September, especially with the warmer temperatures involved.

Poynter suggested the township consider paying a little bit more to have the county do it instead of Ward Construction.

“If we can literally do a mile or two a year with the county and do it continuously, maybe it will keep up with two miles a year,” Poynter said.

Trustees approved the quote for the purchase of a Premier 580SN 24-inch auger at a cost of $7,280. Oberlin made the motion to approve the quote with Poynter seconding it. It will be used for cemetery maintenance and drainage work.

The township will be holding its trash day on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7-8. Following the approval of payment of bills, the current fund balance is now $1,195,050.62.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
