The elementary school registered 73 students for kindergarten by March 9, that’s down from 85 the year before.

Kindergarten screening was held March 21-22. Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are asked to bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of residency to the elementary school office as soon as possible if they did not come in during the registration in February.

The third- and fourth-graders will be putting on the spring musical “GOAL!” May 12. Showtime is 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The students have begun preparing under the direction of Courtney Froehlich.

In addition to speaking parts, dancers, singers, and choir members, some students will be involved in set design and backstage work. Kara Rosene will be assisting in the set design.

Project Citizen is designed to help promote competent and responsible participation in local, state, and federal government. Small groups of students from Andrea Oyer’s government classes, work cooperatively to identify a public policy problem or issue in their community.

They then research the problem, evaluate alternative solutions, develop their own solution in the form of a public policy, and create a political action plan to enlist government authorities to adopt their proposed policy.

Each of the groups presented their projects to groups of staff members for input and suggestions.

Michelle Gladieux and Andrea Oyer organized an interview competition March 8 for their students in the business department and the senior seminal class. Local business leaders and Human Resource Directors interviewed the students one on one for a fictitious HR opening. The judges then rated the students on interview skills and how well they answered the questions.

March 10 the top students were interviewed in a panel format to determine a winner. Two students rose to the top: Adam Grisier and Malinda Lugbill.

The board will meet next at 5 p.m. April 18.
