Rural fire 1By: James Pruitt
THE VILLAGE REPORTER

A fire which began on the front porch Friday morning has displaced a Williams County resident.
The call came in at 7:16 a.m. April 15 about a home at 14717 County Road 7.25 being on fire. Firefighters from six area departments battled the blaze for more than three hours before leaving the scene around 10.
No one was home at the time of the fire, Montpelier Fire Chief Dale Fritch said. The homeowner has family nearby and will stay with them, he said.
Departments assisting under automatic aid agreements included Pioneer, Alvordton, Florence Township, Madison Township. The chief called in Northwest Township for mutual aid. Brady Township Fire Department stood by at the Montpelier station while the fire was being fought, Fritch said.
Crews did not have the fire knocked down until about 9 a.m., as the fire spread through the two-story farmhouse. The fire was fueled by insulation in the walls, Fritch said.
“It was 10:48 when we left the scene,” Fritch said.
The home is a total loss, but it was insured. Fritch said the cause is undetermined.
