Frances Ellen AndresFrances Ellen Andres, age 94 of New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia died Saturday, May 14, 2016.

A daughter of the late William and Sarah (Raymond) Young, Frances was born at Montpelier, Ohio on June 22, 1921.

She was a graduate of Edon High School and Bowling Green State University. Frances married Max Andres on September 1, 1944. Together they reared three daughters and shared in nearly 55 years of marriage prior to Max’s passing on September 21, 1999.

Frances taught for more than 20 years for the New Philadelphia City Schools and maintained memberships with the American Society of University Women and First Christian Church at New Philadelphia, where she sang in the choir.

To Frances, learning wasn’t something that came from just the classroom. She worked her way through college and was determined to provide a better opportunity for her family. After her daughters began elementary school, Frances returned to teaching in order to save funds for their education.

In addition to recognizing the importance of higher education, Frances instilled her love for music in her daughters starting at a very early age. Her family came first above all else. She enjoyed life and sharing her unique sense of humor during gathering and outings. Frances also loved sewing and will be fondly remembered for her accomplished skills.

After retiring in 1980, Frances kept a busy schedule as a tutor and volunteered for the Kent State Archives for the Tuscarawas County Historical Society. She also enjoyed time spent as a volunteer with the former I-77 South rest area visitor’s kiosk and attending meetings of the Tuscora Club.

She leaves behind her children, Martha R. Lang of Dallas, TX, Laura Dee (James) Breehl of New Philadelphia and Barbara Andres of San Francisco, CA; and a grandson, Samuel Roden of New York; and a sister, Annabelle Carter of NC.

In addition to her husband and parents, Frances was preceded in death by a brother, an infant sister, and an infant granddaughter, Shelly Marie Breehl.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitations or services. Cremation has taken place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Inurnment in Edon, Ohio will take place at a later date.

The family would like to extend a most heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of New Dawn who so wonderfully cared for Frances the past eight years, Dr. Simon, and to the staff of Crossroads Hospice.

Contributions in memory of Frances may be directed to Mobile Meals, 695 Boulevard, Dover, Ohio 44622 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and light a candle in remembrance of Frances by visiting the funeral home’s website at www.GeibCares.com.
