STRYKER – On Saturday, December 11, Stryker High School became a “Winter Wonderland” for the 2016-2017 Homecoming. The crowning ceremony was conducted prior to the beginning of the JV game. At that time it was announced that the student body of Stryker High School had selected Taylor Haines and Cameron Frey as queen and king respectively.
The evening’s festivities began at 5:30 pm as freshman attendants MaKenzie Cadwell and Noah Huffman strolled down the makeshift snowy white path to center court of the gymnasium. MaKenizie is the daughter of Heather and Jason Cadwell. She is involved in volleyball and basketball. Noah’s parents are Ryan and Amy Huffman. Noah participates in football, golf, basketball, and baseball.
The sophomore class was represented by Jenna Ramon and Chase Glock. Joseph Ramon is Jenna’s father. Jenna participates in volleyball, softball, choir, and cheer. Casey and Bryan Glock are the parents of Chase. He is a member of basketball and baseball teams.
The Junior Class chose Gabby Stuckey and Josh Wolfrum as their attendants. Gabby is the oldest daughter of Steven and April Stuckey. She is very active at Stryker participating in volleyball, archery, cheer, track, band, and the Spanish and Art clubs. Josh is the son of Melissa and Bernard Hahn. He plays football and basketball at Stryker.
The Class of 2017 selected Kaelyn Currier and Kaid Woolace as the senior attendants. Kaelyn is the daughter of Tonya Moreland and Tony Currier, and is a cheerleader. Kaid is the oldest child of Ben and Kinsey Woolace. Kaid is active in football, golf, basketball, and FFA.
Prior to the coronation, the flower girl, McKenzie Clemens and crown bearer, Colton Price made their entrance. The representatives from the class of 2029 are the children of Josh and Emily Clemens, and Easton and Kara Price. McKenzie enjoys arts and crafts, basketball, gymnastics, and playing Legos with friends. Colton enjoys being outside, specifically in the woods with his dog, Jack.
Last year’s Queen, Megan Graber, the daughter of Joe and Karen Graber, as well as past king Chad Ruffer, the son of John and Tracy Ruffer were in attendance. Megan is a freshman at Goshen where she is majoring in Nursing and minoring in Spanish. Chad is currently attending Northwest State and also works part time at Sauder Manufacturing. After the announcement of the queen and king, the two passed their titles onto the new royalty.
Queen Taylor is the daughter of Becky and Corky Haines. She is involved in FFA, basketball and softball. King Cameron’s parents are Lisa and Glen Frey. Cameron participates in football, basketball, baseball, National Honor Society, 4-H, and is the President of the Stryker FFA.
Unfortunately for the queen, king, and the attendants, their reign did not begin with a victory. After leading for most of the game, the Panthers were unable to hold off a late surge by the Cadets and dropped a two point decision 45-43.
Although the outcome was not what the Stryker royalty or the remainder of the student body had envisioned, the students were able to still have a good time at the dance that followed on the “Stage”.
