It was a busy four-day weekend for the Village of Edon as it honored its own local legends with the annual Edon Days celebration.
The festivities began on Thursday, Aug. 6, with the State Bank hosting its customer appreciation meal.
On Friday, Aug. 7, the Edon Days celebration continued with an Ice Cream Train transporting train enthusiasts of all ages through the Indiana Rail Experience.
Later in the afternoon, the Blakeslee Knights of Columbus hosted its annual fish fry from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
’Rekt performed a live concert from 7 to 11 p.m., and a dunk tank and face painting also took place on Friday, along with food vendors, games and a beer tent.
An early rising start to a busy schedule on Saturday, Aug. 8, began with a breakfast served up by Florence Township Firemen from 6 to 10 a.m.
Following breakfast, Walz Park was the beehive of activity with a co-ed softball tournament along with a fishing derby taking place.
There were other activities as well, such as an “Edon Days” bake sale sponsored by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, an Edon Church of Christ Day in the parking lot, a small-town shop-around in downtown Edon and Mudsock Glass hosting a make-and-take glass suncatchers project.
The annual Edon Days Parade took place with this year’s theme, “God Bless America.”
Sponsored by the Theta Kappa Sorority, the parade featured nearly 50 units including pageant queens, fire departments, local businesses and the Edon marching band.
The Edon Fellowship of Christian Athletes served as grand marshals of the parade. Randy Edwards served as master of ceremonies, and Peyton Robinette sang the national anthem.
In the non-commercial division, the Edon Senior Center took first place, with Rex Reinhart of Edgerton finishing second.
In the commercial division, Runyan’s Lawn Service took first place, with Thiel Supply finishing second. Sparks Golf Carts & Powersports received the Best of Show award in the parade.
Serving as parade judges from the Theta Kappa Sorority were Patty Eichler, Jacque Radabaugh and Sandie Carlson. A water ball tournament was held following the parade.
Live music was provided by the Ledford Boys, and a cruise-in car show was held in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church parking lot later in the afternoon.
The four-day Edon Days celebration wrapped up on Sunday, Aug. 9, with a community church service held at the Walz Park Pavilion.
A co-ed volleyball tournament took place at Walz Park, along with LifeWise hosting its own ice cream social at the community building.
