Wauseon non-union employees will receive a 2 percent raise following action by the City Council Dec. 5.
The Personnel Committee recommended the full council approve the increase. It was done so the non-union workers could match the increase the union workers will see in 2017.
Councilor Jon Schamp reported the Finance Committee met Nov. 22 to go over the capital items for the 2017 budget.
The committee reviewed the items in the listed capital income tax fund, and the capital expenditures in the water and water reclamation funds. The committee still needs to review the fire department request and will do that and discuss when the committee meets to go over the 2017 budget.
Schamp also reported on the newly formed EMS Committee which met Nov. 16. It is still finalizing the bylaws. The Fire Chief’s Association had a previous meeting and they had brought two items of concern to make us aware of. The EMS Executive Committee will meet in January to take those matters up.
Fire Chief Rick Sluder reported that he has been concentrating on the township contracts and coordination with that funding for the fire department.
Police Chief Keith Torbet said the new K-9 unit is in and will be on the road soon.
Director of Public Service Dennis Richardson reported the Public Works employees are still working on leaves and we will switch to brush in about a week.The Christmas decorations are up and crews assisted with the Christmas Parade.
Director of Law Thomas A. McWatters reported that he will be working with Chief Sluder pertaining to the fire contracts. He will be working with council in addressing new state legislation that will impact low speed vehicles, etc.
Council approved Resolution 2016-28 – amending the Classification Plan and Compensation Plan to add the position of Fire Department Executive Assistant, and declaring an emergency.
Council approved the schedule for meeting dates in 2017.
