The Williams County Genealogical Society met Monday, December 12, 2016 in the Harmon Room of the West Annex, Bryan Public Library.
Kaylee McCaskey and Grace Monaqchino shared their experiences. Both girls completed the Family History Treasure Hunt project in 4-H.
The Family History Treasure Hunt Project can run from 1 – 3 years. It is designed for 4-H mem-bers 12 yrs. of age or older. The objective is to learn about the tools and skills used to trace your family heritage. Family members are interviewed, a binder is put together , and a journal is kept.
Kaylee explained that her interest in family history was piqued by first person accounts from her great-grandmothers. “This project drew my family together.” she stated. Trips to the Williams County Genealogy Library consisted of volunteers showing Kaylee how to use microfiche.
She chose to color code her binder with one color for her mother’s family and a different color for her father’s family.
Grace had a display board showing her family tree. Each person was represented by a “sheep” as her family are sheep farmers. She also enjoyed working with the microfiche at the Williams County genealogy Society. In addition, she visited the Allen County Genealogy Society in Fort Wayne, IN. She plans to do this project for another year. This year’s project was also examined at the Ohio State Fair. There was a written test in addition to the project.
Both girls were given a monetary award from the Jennifer Lash Memorial Fund, and a one year membership to the Williams County Genealogy Society.

Research your family history and find historical information using census data, government records, primary sources, images, and more. Access only available while at school or your public library.
On January 9, 2017 , 6:30 pm the WCGS will meet in the Harmon Room of the West Annex to the Bryan Public Library in Bryan, OH.
The purpose of the WCGS is the preservation of county records and family research. Monthly meetings are held the second Monday of each month, excluding July and August, in the Har-mon Room of the West Annex of the Bryan Public Library.
