It has been a very busy year for the Fayette FFA. They have done quite a few activities this year. Since FFA week last year members have participated in a wide variety of contest, events and activities. Following a spring full of contest the FFA members were in full force to put on the 10th Annual Fayette FFA Banquet. This year’s yearly FFA Banquet hosted 320 people. FFA members, parents, guest and school officials. The night was a great reflection of the many accomplishments that the chapter had throughout the year. This year some of the top awards were given to the following FFA members. Star Greenhand was Cassidy Vanderveer, Start Chapter member went to Sara Fields.
This year we had 3 students get the FFA Camp Scholarship awards, Christian Renner, Paige Aschemeier and Grace Eberly. The Fayette FFA ALumni awarded 3 scholarships for members: Grace Eberly, Grant Reinking and Jordan Simon to attending the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. These students spent a week in June visiting the National Monuments, meeting with Congressman Bob Latta and developing their leadership skills with members from all across the United States. Next up the Parliamentary Procedure team took 3rd place on the county level. This year members sold $10,000 dollars’ worth of fruit, nuts and beef jerky. This gave the opportunity for the students to participate in the FFA state convention. Selling these items gives the students the opportunity to learn to be organized and have the responsibility.
With another successful night of honoring all of our FFA members the Fayette FFA was on the move again. The FFA convention where FFA members, chapters and alumni are recognized for their many accomplishments throughout the year. To wrap up the convention 3 Fayette FFA members walked across the stage to receive their State FFA Degree, this is the 2nd highest degree that a FFA member can obtain. Jennaya Hibbard, April Beaverson, Cole Stuckey were part of this elite group to receive their degrees that night.
With the school year coming to an end the Fayette FFA was still busy. Mrs. Schultz and 2 FFA members headed to FFA Camp Muskingum for a week full of fun in the sun.
With the summer coming to a close and school back in session FFA members were out in full force readying projects for the fair, preparing for soils contest and planning a trip to the National FFA convention.
With the fair just ending, the FFA was just beginning again. Many of the members had animals or other projects to exhibit at the fair. It was great to see the FFA members shine in the events that they do all the time. The FFA is excited to have many new contests to so this year.
While members were still busy wrapping up the fair there were also gearing up for another great year in Career Development events. First up would be the Rural and Urban Soil judging contest. The Rural Soil judging team placed 4th in the country and 3rd in the district contest.
Team members included: Cassidy Vanderveer, Grace Eberly, Sara Fields, Brylee Riegsecker, Cj Renner, Sydney Borton, Maddy Kusmierz, Mataya Rufenacht. The Urban soils team placed 4th at the county allowing them to advice to district contest where they got 8th. Members included: Paige Aschemier, Alex Jaramillo, Zoee Keiser, Travis Wagner, Cole Stuckey, Jackson Wentz, Addisyn Bentley, Bradyn Ruger. Next up was the District Dairy Foods and Dairy Judging contest. Students have prepared and participated in the District Dairy Cattle Judging and Milk Quality and Products contest. In the Dairy Cattle judging contest members are challenged to evaluate dairy cows and heifers. Each student was charged with the task of evaluating cows/heifers on dairy character, udder characteristics and the development of growth into a mature and superior cow on the local dairy farm. Members also evaluated dairy pedigrees, sire selection and a general knowledge dairy test. Members of this team included: Zoee Keiser, Kaelyn Borton, Jackson Wentz, Addisyn Bentley, Cassidy Vanderveer, Grant Reinking, Mataya Rufenacht, Jordan Simon, Sara Fields, Trey Keefer, Robert Wyatt, Brylee Riegsecker, Sydney Borton, Eli Eberly.
The Milk Quality and Products contest allowed members to evaluate and identify the product of the dairy industry: Milk. They learn to taste and identify qualities of milk, identify cheeses and determine the severity of mastitis in a cow. Members were: Kim Gorner, Cj Renner, Kelsey Fruchey, Grace Eberly, Paige Aschemeier, Haley Perdue, Emma Leininger, Madison Baughman. The officers went to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. They went to the huge career show and attended various leadership and business sessions during the convention. While at convention members were able to tour a dairy farm.
Wrapping up a year of FFA members prepare for the National FFA Week, held February 18-25. Fayette FFA members will be celebrating with a district wide spirit week, teacher luncheon and ag. Olympics for both the elementary and Jr./High school students. This week will be a great week for the FFA members to show their pride in their organization and be proud of being part of the largest youth organization in our country.
