Archbold, OH – With sleigh rides, snowmen, ice harvesting and even an appearance by Elsa from the movie “Frozen”, the new Sauder Village Frozen in Time Festival is sure to be a fun-filled getaway for families this winter. This brand new event will take place on Saturday, February 18 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Historic Village with a combination of historic and modern day activities with a winter theme.
Throughout the afternoon families can go sledding down the hill by the Stuckey barn and grab some buttons and carrots to build a snowman in the Village. There will be a nature scavenger hunt and pinecone bird feeders for kids to make. Guests will be invited into some of the historic homes to warm up and enjoy more fun-filled activities. In the 1920 Grime Homestead guests can enjoy some popcorn, and play parlor games like Tiddlywinks, Go Fish, Minute Maid and Checkers. There will also be old-time toys to play with like paper dolls, Lincoln Logs and a Spirograph and in the Stuckey Home there will be a snowman craft for children to make.
At the Grime Barn guests will be able to catch a ride on the bobsled for an old-time journey through the snow and meet a special horse named Rebekah, the most recent addition to the Sauder Village barnyard! If the lake is frozen, guests can board a trolley to take a ride out to Little Lake Erie to watch ice harvesting demonstrations. Historically ice harvesting was used in place of modern refrigeration to preserve and cool food. There will also be historic ice harvesting equipment on display in the Museum Building along with a short ice harvesting video.
And finally, a winter event would not be complete without an appearance by Elsa from the movie “Frozen”! Elsa will be in the District 16 School throughout the afternoon. There will be an activity for children in the school, special music and an opportunity for everyone to have their picture taken with Elsa!
“We’re really looking forward to celebrating winter on the farm with our new Frozen in Time Festival,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations. “While we are hoping for some snow and cold weather – the event will take place even without snow, the activities will just be changed a bit!”
Throughout the afternoon the Museum Building will be open and there will be special “Craft Saturday” weaving activities for guests to try in the Welcome Center. The Sauder Village Gift Shop and Threads of Tradition Quilt Shop will be open and the Heritage Shop volunteers will have hot cocoa available for sale. For anyone interested in a long weekend getaway for President’s Day Weekend, a special Frozen in Time Package is even available at the Sauder Heritage Inn!
Admission to the Frozen in Time Festival is $13 for adults ($11 for member adults), $7.00 for students ($6.00 for member students) and children 3 and under are free. To receive $1.00 off admission guests are encouraged to register and purchase admission tickets online at www.saudervillage.org
