Bob Lee and James Hankins, Emergency Responders working out of Stryker, spoke to the Stryker Rotary Club about the services provided to the local community. Stryker’s EMTs traditionally respond to between 200 and 250 calls each year. Currently Stryker has five EMT’s and five First Responders who share the responsibility to cover 24 hours each and every day.

All who serve must be properly trained and with the EMT’s requiring 150 hours of training for certification. They are also required to be recertified every three years. Stryker City Council has authorized to pay for training up to three additional EMT’s this year. The men stated that Stryker could use more help for this very important service to share the workload. They also displayed a reflective water resistant jacket they are hoping to be able to provide to all who run out of Stryker. They are often called out to automobile accidents at night or during poor visibility, and feel the jackets would make them more visible on the highway. The men stated that either Stryker Village or Williams County were unable to provide funds for the cost of these jackets. The Stryker Rotary will consider helping to provide jackets to assist with the safety of the men and women who serve the community in this fashion. The club will discuss the purchase at another meeting.
