Members of the Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education convened in regular session on the evening of February 27.

Of note in the report of Elementary Principal Laurie Worline was an update on the Jump Rope for the Heart event which was held on Valentine’s Day. Although she said that she cannot give a definitive number, she is confident that the fundraising event netted over $9,000, and credited Angie Dunson for her efforts in setting up the program.

Actions approved as part of the consent agenda included a service agreement with the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center for $341,863, membership with the West Unity Chamber of Commerce for 2017 at $40.00, and participation in the OHI Charter Worker’s Compensation Group Rating Program for the 2018 policy year. The Board gave their consent for FMLA childbirth leave to Sam Boehnlein, Brittany Charles, Amanda Nofziger and Sarah Rupp.

The Board approved the school calendar for 2017-2018, donations of items from the West Unity Presbyterian and United Methodist Churches, and a disposal list of broken and/or outdated items. The Board gave their consent to the early graduation requests of Nicole Burrows and Tiara Dennison, the annual payment of financial disclosure filing fees to the Ohio Ethics Commission for the Superintendent and Treasurer’s positions, and a pair of extended overnight trips. Those trips included a group of science students attending the Ohio Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at BGSU from March 15 through March 17, and the Millcreek West Unity Chapter of the FFA attending the Ohio State FFA Convention at the Ohio State Exposition Center and Fairgrounds from May 4 through May 5.

The Board approved graduate study requests of three semester hours apiece for Brittany Charles, Pamela R. Joice, and Vicki Rhodes. A graduate study request of six semester hours was approved for Sarah Rupp. The Board agreed to eliminate Administrative guidelines 3160B and 4160B, and the provisions in policy 3160 and 4160 referencing the testing and examination of staff members for tuberculosis.

The Board extended offers of employment for the 2016-17 school year to Heather Mohler as a long-term substitute teacher, Caiden Miller as a cafeteria volunteer for his Senior Project, Tom Schaper as a Saturday School Supervisor, and Megan Gerig, Suzanne Lammers, Amanda Miller and Anne Smith as substitute teachers.

Prior to adjournment, the Board approved a list of appropriation and revenue changes, as well as the annual resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission, authorizing the necessary tax levies, and certifying them to the County Auditor.
