Wildlife Officer Doubts Report Of Cougar Attack On Horse In Williams County

May 7, 2017Updated:May 9, 2017No Comments1 Min Read

A recent heavily shared post on social media about an alleged attack by a cougar or bobcat on an aged horse near Cooney (rural Edon) has not made its way to the DNR.

Williams County Wildlife officer Anthony Lemle said the only calls he has received have been from media representatives. The post was a second-hand report from a woman who said her neighbor told her about an incident with the horse.

The old horse had suffered some cuts from an unknown source. An unnamed vet is quoted as having said the cuts were from a cougar or bobcat. The post said the local DNR officer was warning everyone.

Lemle said he is the only officer for Williams County and he has not warned anybody since he has not been notified of any such attack.
If anyone has any information, they can call Lemle at 419-429-8396.
