The May 7 Special Election is just around the corner and Williams County residents find themselves faced with only one county-wide issue.
A levy for the purpose of construction and maintenance improvements of Soil and Water Conservation District programs by the Williams County Soil and Water Conservation District is back on the ballot. A similar 0.45 mill levy for the Soil and Water Conservation District was defeated last November by a slim 47.5% – 52.5% margin.
Along with the narrow defeat of the levy, the proposed levy for the 2013 ballot has been reduced from the 0.45 mill the Conservation District asked for in November to 0.4 mill, which amounts to $0.04 for each one hundred dollars of valuation. The levy would run for five years, commencing in 2013, and would first be due in the calendar year 2014.
Additionally, a renewal tax levy will be on the ballot for the Millcreek-West Unity Local School District. The levy would renew an existing levy and would be for the purpose of providing for the emergency requirements of the school district in the sum of $300,000 and a levy of taxes to be made outside the ten-mill limitation estimated by the County Auditor to average 4.4 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.44 for each one hundred dollars of valuation. The renewal levy would run for a period of five years, commencing in 2014, and be first due in the calendar year 2015.
As May 7 will be a Special Election, no state issues are listed to appear on the ballot.
