The increasing role of technology in the world has created a greater need for technological opportunities in the classroom. In light of this reality, teaching and learning are undergoing major reforms worldwide. One of the discussions within these reforms is BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). K-12 and Career/Tech schools around the country are investigating and implementing BYOD procedures as a way to help get new technology into the classrooms. BYOD allows students to bring their personal laptops or tablets from home and use them for educational applications and school activities in the classroom. School related activities could include taking notes, doing research, creating projects, communicating with students and teachers, senior projects, and such. College campuses across the country have been implementing BYOD for several years with great success and most students like the program because they get to use more modern technology and use devices they already own and are familiar with.

Four County Career Center will be offering a BYOD option beginning the 2013-14 year for our students. Four County Career Center has always attempted to stay at the forefront of technology and it is our endeavor to continue that momentum. Four County Career Center believes that tools such as virtualization and applications like My Big Campus have opened the door for a successful BYOD program to begin.

The following Technology Fee structure for the 2013-14 FCCC school year will be $50 per semester billed at the beginning of each new school year. The purpose of the Student Technology Fee is to enhance the educational programs of students through the use of information technologies. Information technologies are generally defined as hardware and software applications and solutions that result in a student’s ability to access information and meet the school’s educational mission.

The focus of the Student Technology Fee covers a variety of technology expenses that directly benefit students in meeting Four County Career Center’s educational objectives. These objectives are committed to providing a relevant and meaningful educational experience for all students. Our dedication is continually to the student and if any fees that occur during a student’s two-year program at Four County Career Center create a financial hardship for a family, please contact our administration for available options. A schedule based upon Free and Reduced lunches may be implemented to offset the Student Technology Fee. The Technology Fee will also be waived if a student participates and has an approved device for the BYOD program. More information about the BYOD program will be provided in May during the Four County Career Center orientation nights. Current juniors will be getting more information about the BYOD program in the next few weeks.
