The September meeting of the Northwest Ohio Rug Hookrafters Guild was held at the Stryker library.   There were 13 members present and 2 guests; Cheryl McCoy (Defiance) and Nanette Buehrer (Archbold).

Members signed up for the Katie Allman sampler class to be held on Nov. 3 at St. John UCC, Defiance.  Participants will pay for their patterns the day of the class with a $25.00 teacher fee.  Susan Scmunck, Carla Allshouse and Julie Klinger demonstrated hooking at “Ladies Day” at the Williams County Fair.  The guild is still looking for a location to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the guild in 2013.   The Sauder 2013 Hook-in will be held on Feb.1-2.  Anyone interested may register on-line.  Cindy Kiacz brought wool from the Anna Kissinger family for donation.  Julie Klinger shared a rug she is hooking for a bed and breakfast owner who is hiking the Appallacian Trail with her daughter.  Carla Allshouse reminded members to bring fall themed items to the meeting in October.  These items will be displayed at the Bryan library History Center.

“Brandon Barn”, a rug hooking pattern designed by Warren Kimble, will be hooked by the guild for permanent display at the Heritage Inn, Sauder Village, Archbold.  Barbara Carroll of Woolley Fox, will graciously donate and color plan the rug for the guild.  The guild will also purchase wool for the rug from Barb.  The rug will be worked on 1 hour before meetings and at Friday nite hook-ins.

While members enjoyed refreshments Rebecca Landin presented the evening’s program; “Beginning Rug Hooking Basics, Facts and Myths”.  She told members how to keep loops at the same height, hooking 3 rows of border to keep edges straight, hooking circles so the lay flat, hiding tails, right and wrong sides of wool, how to store rugs, how to clean rugs and uses for snippets.

The next meeting will be held on Oct. 3, 6PM, at the Stryker library.  The guild will have a “Supply Swap and Sale”.  For more information contact Julie Klinger, 419-551-1033.
