That was not a parade going up South Fayette Street on the morning of August 1 in Fayette. That was a collection of friends, neighbors, emergency service personnel and more, marching in support of each other in a peaceful and patriotic protest organized by Daryl and Joni Beaverson.

“It started out we were kind of disappointed everything’s canceled,” Daryl said. “So, we can’t have a parade…but we can have a protest. So we’re protesting. We’re protesting the parade being canceled by doing the same. We can’t say that it’s a parade…it’s a protest. It’s a protest of everything being cancelled. We just wanted to do what we couldn’t do.”

No matter where you looked, you saw at least one American flag, and for good reason. “We didn’t want anything bad to come out of it,” Daryl explained. “This is all positive. This is meant to be a positive event.”

This was not just a protest, as Daryl left the door open for public support of other things. Anything you want it to be,” he said. “Police department, law enforcement, firefighters…anything.”
