Allen “Al” Carter (1942-2020)

Allen “Al” I. Carter,  age 77, of Archbold, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 in Community Hospitals and Wellness Center, Bryan, Ohio.  Al was born August 18, 1942 in Fulton County, Ohio to the late Ivan H. and Dorothy G. (Burkholder) Carter.

He married Elizabeth “Donna” Corey on March 11, 1972 and she survives. Al was a police officer for the Village of Archbold for over 16 years and also served as Assistant Chief of Police.

He was involved in the Fulton County Sheriff special unit division and developed “Carter’s Commandos” for area youth law enforcement  involvement. Al served honorably in the United States Army as a Military Police during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Donna”, of Archbold, Ohio.  Children,  Vickie L. Shirey, Archbold, Ohio,  Laura (Tom) Frank, Kyle, Texas,  Daniel (Barbara) Shirey, Wauseon, Ohio. 9 grandchilkdren. 22 great-grandchildren.  

Al is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Irvin H. Carter.  


Friends may call for a time of visitation with the Carter family 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday, March 21, 2020 in the Grisier Funeral Home, Archbold, Ohio. Public graveside and interment services 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 in Smith Cemetery, corner of County Road 19 and County Road HJ,  Fulton County, Ohio.  Pastor Ryan Harker officiating. Graveside military honors will be accorded by Fulton County Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to:  Wounded Warrior Foundation. Online condolences and registry online at:  www.grisierfh.com.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to:  Grisier Funeral Home, Archbold, Ohio.
