STRYKER – Like baseball, the game of softball can be a cruel. Hilltop’s Kacie Hodson was working on a no-hitter against Ayersville through five innings of their May 13 Sectional title game, and took a one-hit shutout into the seventh. It was there that the cruelty set in as a chorus of errors turned Hodson’s gem upside down, opening the door for five unearned runs and allowing Ayersville to escape with the Sectional Championship, 5-2.[emember_protected custom_msg=”Full content protected for online subscribers. Hodson allowed 3 hits and 4 walks, fanning 9 in the hard luck loss.

Trailing 5-0, Hilltop tried to reply in kind in their final at-bat. Hannah Bleikamp got onboard with her second base hit of the day, and then Hodson advanced her to third with a double. Shayla Coffman came through with a double that plated Bleikamp and Hodson, but the Lady Cadet rally ended there.
