April Brings Lower Unemployment Rates Across Northwest Ohio

Unemployment figures for April 2025 have been released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, highlighting generally improved economic conditions throughout Northwest Ohio.

Fulton County experienced a noticeable improvement, dropping from 6.4% in March to 5.6% in April. Williams County also recorded better numbers, decreasing slightly from 5.4% to 5.1%.

Nearby, Lucas County saw continued progress, with the unemployment rate declining from 6.5% in March to 6.4% in April. Defiance County also improved, decreasing to 4.8% compared to the previous month’s 5.3%.


Henry County saw a significant decrease in unemployment, moving down from 7.9% in March to 5.8% in April.

Wood County’s job market strengthened slightly, dropping from 4.9% to 4.7%. Ottawa County, known for more higher rates in the region, showed marked improvement, decreasing from 8.5% in March to 7.4% in April.

Across Ohio, the statewide unemployment rate stood at 4.9%, reflecting further improvement from the 5.1% rate reported in March. On a national level, the U.S. unemployment rate improved notably, decreasing to 3.9% compared to 4.2% in March.
