Child Support Services Staff WEB(WAUSEON, OH) — Parenting isn’t easy. The next time a child is a source of stress, frustration or anger, pause and take a moment to calm down before reacting. April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, and the Fulton County Job & Family Services- Child Protective Unit is encouraging all residents of Fulton County to “Pause for a Child” and take an active role in making our community a safe place for families and children. It also encourages all residents to Wear Blue on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016 to show their support for child abuse and neglect prevention.

Child Abuse and Neglect can occur anywhere. It’s not bound by geography, culture, or socio-economic class. The children of today will become our future of tomorrow. Children are our community’s greatest asset and need protecting. Wear Blue is about the community coming together and standing up to Child Abuse. You and everyone are spreading the word –Child Abuse is Preventable.

Many people see signs of abuse or neglect and never report them. Perhaps you notice behavior changes, hear something that makes you uncomfortable, see an unusual bruise, or actually witness abusive behavior in a parent, adult or other child. Other signs may include an unkempt or malnourished appearance; depression, anxiety, or sudden mood swings; disturbed sleep; fear of a certain person or place; self-harm or suicide attempts; wetting or soiling accidents not related to toilet training; pain during urination and/or bowel movements; sexually transmitted diseases or urinary tract infections; unusual knowledge of body parts or sexual behaviors; acting out sexually with toys or other children. There is no excuse for child abuse. The next time you see something unusual or suspect child abuse or neglect, REPORT IT.

To report suspected child abuse or neglect in Fulton County call 419-337-0010 and press 3 then 2. Reports can be made anonymously. For more information about child abuse prevention programs and activities in Fulton County, visit www.fultoncountyoh.com/jfs
