A Fields of Faith event took place at the Archbold Varsity Softball Field on Sunday, October 12, bringing together more than 100 students from schools throughout Fulton County and Liberty Center for an evening of worship, prayer, and testimony.
The event, held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., transformed the athletic field into a place of community and faith.
The evening opened with the song That Who I Praise before everyone joined together in prayer. From there, worship filled the night air as students sang When You Walk Into The Room, Trust In God, Made For More, Good Plans, No Longer Slaves, and several other songs.
Testimonies followed soon after, led first by student organizer Willa Ruffer and then by other students who shared their personal faith stories. During the night, students also formed prayer groups, gathering with their peers to reflect and pray together.
This local gathering was part of a larger movement happening on athletic fields across the country. Every year, students in communities nationwide unite through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Fields of Faith, using their voices to worship and share their faith with others.
What began as a single vision has grown into hundreds of events across the nation, all focused on empowering students to lead.
Unlike many Christian gatherings that rely on adult speakers, Fields of Faith stands apart as a student-led ministry. At Archbold, the effort was organized by student leader Willa Ruffer, who not only coordinated the schedule but also helped assemble the worship band.
Her vision for the event began last year, and with the help of her peers, she turned that calling into a powerful night of praise and connection.
Fields of Faith was first created in 2004 when Jeff Martin, FCA’s Executive Director of Campus Sports Ministry, sought to help students stand firm in their faith while facing everyday challenges.
That year, more than 6,000 students gathered across three states for the first event. In the years since, Fields of Faith has grown into a nationwide movement, drawing students from countless communities together in worship.
The Archbold gathering was one of several events taking place throughout the region this month. On October 26, another Fields of Faith event will be held at Defiance High School, with students from Ayersville, Hicksville, Defiance, Tinora, and Defiance College expected to attend.
That same night, students from Patrick Henry, Liberty Center, and Napoleon schools will gather around a bonfire for an evening of worship, continuing a growing wave of faith-led student outreach across Northwest Ohio.
