Although Rachel Kinsman is by no means new to the Archbold High School cross country and track programs (the Archbold grad was a standout track and cross country runner in high school), she does begin a new era this spring as she starts her first year as the high school track coach.

Since the 2020 track season was cancelled due to COVID, Rachel explained the this year’s 66 athletes on the boys and girls teams actually have two freshmen classes (both the true freshmen and this year’s sophomores who weren’t able to compete last year) to go with the 16 returning female letter winners and 23 returning male letter winners from the 2019 squads. Six assistant coaches will work with various event athletes.

This year, both the boys and girls will compete in Division 3 with their first meet scheduled for March 27 at Napoleon — weather permitting.

The full schedule starts in April and culminates in early June with the Division 3 state meet at Westerville North High School in the Columbus area.

She explained that all of the athletes will compete in events during the week day dual meets with only the top 2 or so athletes competing in the weekend invitationals.

The program was arranged by Royal Short.
