The village of Archbold has a new fire chief.

Dave Davis has been appointed as the new designate and will begin his duties Dec. 5. He will be paid $58,000 a year.
He will replace Andy Broadbeck who is retiring.

The council also renewed a contract with the Fulton County Commissioners for reimbursement for legal representation for indigents.

The council approved a renewal of a contract allowing the Dog Warden to enforce animal control laws in the village. An officer and a truck will be provided, but the officer remains an employee of the county.

Archbold police reported 263 calls for service last month, that’s more than the same month in 2015 (216). The department has received 3,203 calls this year.

The most prevalent calls included 83 house checks, 17 traffic offenses, 14 community service, 11 assists to fire and rescue unit and 9 suspicious vehicle calls.

Archbold received a Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The award recognizes the community for having optimally fluoridated water for 2015.

Fluoride in municipal water systems helps prevent tooth decay. Every $1 invested in fluoridation in the water system saves about $38 in dental care.
