Archbold Village Council began with a Call to Order followed by a moment of silence. The Minutes from the February 21, 2022 meeting were approved along with Bills and Payroll.
Mr. Dave Wyse, owner of Mom’s Diner, was present at the meeting to share some concerns with Council.
The Village of Archbold hosts a number of events downtown during the summer, such as The Backyard Bash which is a county concert with food trucks and a beer tent, and the Annual Go Kart races.
During these events a small portion of downtown Archbold on Route 66, otherwise known as South Defiance Street, is closed.
Wyse told council that this affects the local businesses downtown. He stated that these events are keeping customers away from Mom’s Diner as a fence is put up directly in front of their doors.
It also changes the hours that the company makes due to these events. Mr. Wyse asked council to be open to discussing options for the Diner to become un-affected by these events.
One suggestion Mr. Wyse gave council was possibly moving the Backyard Bash.
This was an issue due to the requirements the performers’ business promoters have that there must be pictures and proof of a successful venue.
Village Council member Kevin Eicher asked Archbold Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Kidder to get in touch with the business promoters to notify them of potential changes in location.
Ashley Nussbaum Plata from “Downtown Restaurant” was also present during Public Participation and inquired about bringing in DORA cups to the town’s “Backyard Bash”.
DORA Cups are Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Areas designated cups which can be bought and used throughout the allowed fenced area. Ashley says regarding the Backyard bash, “I’m all for it, I love that it’s in front of our restaurant, thank you.”
The Board approved the Second reading of the following ordinances: An ordinance Providing for a Water Rate Increase and An Ordinance Providing for a Wastewater Rate Increase.
Also approved were Reports from the month of February including, Income Tax Receipts, Police Department Calls for Service, Fire and EMS Calls for Service, and Street Department Labor and Fleet reports.
With no other business, Council Adjourned at 6:41 p.m. with the next meeting scheduled for March 21, 2022 at 5:30 p.m.
