Archbold Village Council met once again at their temporary chambers in the Ruihley Park Scout Cabin for its regular meeting.
Following a moment of silence, Council got right down to business approving minutes from the meeting held on October 2, 2023, as well as the September 2023 Financials including payment of bills and payroll in the amount of $364,663.59.
Several members of the public were in attendance to witness Mayor Brad Grime swear in the newest officer, Justin Smith.
This appointment comes as a result of the recent reassignment of Grant Schaffner, who has taken the position of the Village’s Zoning Inspector.
A 2022 law enforcement academy graduate, Smith began his career with the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office and then signed on with the Village of Pioneer before coming to the APD. Smith will begin his duties on October 23, 2023.
Second readings were heard on Ordinance 2023-42 providing for a 3% water rate increase effective January 1, 2024 billing (December 2023 consumption period), and Ordinance 2023-43 providing for a 3% wastewater rate increase effective January 1, 2024 Billing (December 2023 consumption period).
According to research by village officials, it was noted that compared to the surrounding communities, Archbold’s fees for both services remain on the lower end.
After emergency declaration, council gave their approval to Resolution 2023-47, backing “Change Order #2 FINAL” for the S. Defiance Street Waterline Project Contract.
Assistant Village Administrator Aaron Alt explained that the adjustment was prompted by the contractor’s recognition that the scope of work wasn’t as extensive as initially projected in the extension of the original change order. This development has resulted in a reduction in the project cost.
Jim Wyse, Economic Development Coordinator for the village was on hand to share with council his quarterly report featuring Placer.AI data illustrating the strong business climate in the community and the opportunity that exists for new businesses to consider locating in Archbold.
Wyse also shared data regarding Sauder Village and highlighted how many people the local attraction brings into the area.
Council reviewed the September 2023 monthly reports from the APD, AFD & EMS, and the Street Department.
Minutes from Capital Planning and Planning Commission meetings held on October 9, 2023, were reviewed as well.
Upcoming events include the German Township Trustee meeting on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 7:30 p.m.
Archbold Village Council is scheduled for its next regular meeting on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 5:30 p.m.
