The Archbold Village Council met for its second regular meeting of the month with council members Karla Ball, Aaron Babcock, Kevin Eicher, Mike Evans and Gary Dominique in attendance, while council member Chad Kern was absent.
Mayor Brad Grime, Village Administrator Aaron Alt, and Clerk Cassie Storrer were also present.
Addressing routine matters, the council approved minutes from its meeting held on August 3 and authorized the payment of $975,972.40 in bills and payroll.
Village Administrator Alt noted that a large payment for resurfacing was included in the expenses.
Looking at legislative items, following a motion to suspend the rules and pass on emergency, the council voted to approve Resolution 2026-27, which amends Resolution No. 2026-16 to extend the temporary Moratorium on Data Centers, Advanced Manufacturing Facilities, and Technology Storage Facilities.
According to the Resolution, “the Village’s review remains ongoing, and the Mayor and Council have determined that additional time is necessary to complete that review, receive further public input, and consider permanent zoning regulations addressing these uses.”
The village administrator indicated that a draft of the zoning changes has been completed by consultant Reveille, Ltd.
According to Alt, the village is also monitoring the outcome of the state’s proposed Data Center Study Commission, established through pending House legislation. “Likely nothing until after the elections,” Alt said. The Moratorium will remain in full effect until April 6, 2027.
The council reviewed the Archbold Police Department’s July 2026 report, which noted that officers completed 56 total hours of training focused on Crisis Negotiations through the FBI and Firearms.
Officers issued nine traffic citations, including speeding, failure to obey traffic control devices, fictitious license plates, and driving under suspension or without a license, and 79 warnings were issued.
The department responded to six motor vehicle crashes last month. Violations of a protection order, menacing, aggravated menacing, and assault/strangulation led to four total arrests.
During the month of July, the APD logged 166 business checks, 53 community service calls, eight vehicle unlocks, seven house checks, responded to eight alarm drops, and took 148 reports.
The department also executed one SRT call for a felony search warrant and assisted another agency in one investigation.
The Archbold/German Township Fire Department reported 106 total calls, slightly down from the month of June at 107 calls. EMS responded to 87 rescue calls and provided 57 transports to medical facilities.
The department responded to 14 fire calls within its territory and five mutual aid calls. Of the calls for service, five were for alarms, three for structure, three for odor investigation, three for inspections, four for outdoor fires, and one vehicle fire. Department members completed a cumulative total of 95 hours of training in July.
Trick-or-Treat was scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Due to the Labor Day holiday, the next Archbold Village Council meeting is slated for Tuesday, September 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
