August Adult Programs At Swanton Public Library

August 8, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

SPL Used Media Sale Returns!

It’s back! Stop by the library between August 11th and September 3rd and take a peek at our used media sale featuring gentle used items from the SPL as well as donations from community members! Anyone interested in volunteering to help set up and tear down can contact the library for times and dates.

Swanton Area Robotics Club

Are you mechanically or technologically minded? Are you interested in robots? Do you want to be interested in robots? Look no further! The SARC is open to everyone both new and experiences! This program is open to everyone age 17+ and is free to attend—no registration required! So, join us on Monday, August 8th starting at 5:00pm.

Gretchen’s Book Club: Find Me

New name—same book club! The SPL Adult Book Club has changed its name to honor departed member and long-time library supporter Gretchen Moffat.

Thriller fans won’t want to miss August’s book club pick: Find Me by Alafair Burke.

Gretchen’s Book Club will meet on the second Thursday in August, the 11th, and meet at 5:30pm. Copies of the book in multiple formats are available behind the front desk, so stop in and check out your copy today!

Seam-Rippers Sewing Club

Do you have some free time in the mornings and want to brush up on your sewing skills? Do you have some sewing projects and just want a little company while you work? Lucky for you, the Seam Rippers are back this month—August 17th at 10:30am.

No registration is required and walk-ins are encouraged. Packed lunches are welcome and encouraged. All you need is yourself and your newest sewing project; we hope to see you there!

Cardmaking: Beautiful Backgrounds

The warm weather is definitely warm and is definitely here to stay for a while! For some of us, that means vacations (or staycations)! Why not send your loved ones a homemade card while they—or you—are out on your adventures?

Stop in August 18th at 5:00pm for some crafting! Class fee is $7/person, but all supplies are provided. Please note that your finished result may not match exactly with the examples provided by Anna Geis! Please stop in or call to register today!

Online Book Club: Killers Of The Flower Moon

Are you a true crime fan? A history fan? Both? Then don’t miss the Online Book Club this month! August’s kits will include Killers of the Flower Moon, which combines history and murder most foul all in one (nonfiction) book!

To prepare for the Netflix docudrama over the same book, pick up your book kit (yours to take home and keep) which includes the book, background information, and links to a talk by the author himself over the Osage Murders—a dark chapter in Southwest history.

An optional online discussion will be held August 23rd at 5:30pm for anyone interested. But don’t delay—kits are limited!

Recurring Monthly Programs

Chess Club is officially back and open to beginners and seasoned chess players alike, and meets in the library every Wednesday at 5:00pm.

The Swanton Historical Society will meet every Friday in August at 10:00am—anyone interested in joining or volunteering with the Historical Society is encouraged to attend!

The local Writers Group will meet Thursdays the 11th, and 17th at 5:30pm and writers of all skill levels are encouraged to stop in! Our local knitters are back again from 5:00pm to 6:30 on Wednesdays the 3rd, 17th, and 31st.

Fiber artists of all levels are invited to join—spinners, weavers and crocheters also invited!
