The Stryker Rotary Club presented each of the students in the 3rd grade class in Stryker elementary School with dictionaries on September 10th. During National Suicide Prevention Week, Four County Career Center’s Early Childhood Education class raised money for the Four County Adamhs Board Suicide Coalition and the Mikayla Smith Memorial Scholarship. Spearheaded by (LEFT TO RIGHT) Danielle Whitmire (Delta) and Brynne Riegsecker (Fayette), their goal was to not only raise money but to spread awareness about suicide prevention. Students are shown above with Brooke Thomas, Prevention Specialist from the Four County Family Center, who spent the day at the Career Center discussing this important issue with students.

Two separate bond resolutions gained the approval during the September 14 meeting of the Wauseon Board of Education. The first is a resolution providing for the issuance and sale of bonds in the maximum principal amount of $3,915,000 for the purpose of refunding at a lower interest cost certain of the school district’s outstanding classroom facilities and school improvement bonds, series 2007, dated March 7, 2007. Lloyd “Bub” Dale Baun, Jr., age 61, of Delta, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, September 14, 2015 at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon. He was born in Wauseon on July 25, 1954 to Lloyd Dale Baun, Sr., who survives and the late Eleanor (Gruber) Baun. Lloyd worked as a machinist for Bunting Bearings of Delta for over forty years. Bub was a member of the Delta Eagles Order #2597. He was an avid guitarist, performing in various bands and playing practical jokes on friends and family. Bub married Kimberly Skiles on July 25, 1987 and she survives. Also…

Gertrude Downing, age 90, of Wauseon passed away early Tuesday September 15, 2015 at the Fulton County Health Center. Prior to her retirement she had worked for Perfection Finishers in Wauseon for 53 years. Mrs. Downing was born on June 24, 1925 in Memphis, TN the daughter of the late George and the late Louella (Zilkey) Rathbun. She married Donzell Downing and he preceded her in death. She was a member of Christ Church in Wauseon. Steve Kaposy, age 88, formerly a longtime resident of Swanton, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 16, 2015 at Whitehouse Country Manor. He was born in the country of Hungry on February 21, 1927 before coming to the United States with his parents, Anthony Kaposy Sr. and Elizabeth (Toth) Kaposy and settling in Avella, Pennsylvania. Steve was one of eight children, including, George, Anthony Jr., Louis, Joseph, Rose, Elizabeth and Julia. Steve was a U.S Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. A ‘Small Farm and Hobby Farm Livestock Workshop’ will be held Thursday, September 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Williams Soil and Water Conservation District Office, 1120 West High Street in Bryan.  This workshop is free and open to the public. Fall programs for children at the West Unity Branch Library are set to begin on September 22nd. The fall programs will include story times and after school programs. Story times for toddlers and preschoolers, ages 2 through 6, will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm and on Thursdays from 11:15 am to 12:00 noon. As a tribute to those who lost their lives and to acknowledge the 14th Anniversary of 9-11, Four County Career Center students from the Fire & Rescue and Law Enforcement & Security Tactics along with instructors Tonya Fisher and Kevin Thomas, held a Remembrance Ceremony in honor of “Patriot Day.” During the ceremony the National Anthem was sung by Matt Zwyer, English instructor, while Law Enforcement & Security Tactics students Cheyenne Smith-Sutton (Bryan) and Jacob Wasilewski (Defiance) lowered the flag to half mast. A safety assembly for over 500 new Four County Career Center students was recently held at the school. The assembly was held to promote safety in the Career Center for all students, personnel, and visitors. Ohio State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Jerrod A. Savidge and Henry County Sheriff Michael Bodenbender both stressed the importance of safe driving habits. They emphasized that obeying traffic laws is vital as well as paying attention to speed limits and the actions of other drivers. Dr. Phyllis Ponder Robinson, 69, of Dyersburg, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at her residence. Dr. Robinson was born on October 29, 1945 to the late Daniel and Willie Mae Ponder in Pittsburgh, PA. There she earned an associate degree from St. Francis School of nursing. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Dr. Joseph E. Rory Dean Browning, age 54, of Fremont, Indiana and formerly of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away September 11, 2015, at Cameron Memorial Hospital of Angola, Indiana. He was born October 12, 1960 in Zanesville, Ohio. He attended school in Montpelier, Ohio. The department has received numerous reports of cars being ransacked and money and debit/credit cards being stolen from cars in Union Place subdivision. This would of occurred overnight between September 10th and September 11. If you have any information on this please contact the Bryan Police Department at 419-633-6050. We are following up leads on the transactions that were made using the stolen cards. Please remove anything of value from your cars. All the cars entered were not locked.

This fall the Pioneer Friends of the Library will once again hold a “Reverse Raffle” to raise funds for the Pioneer Branch Library, WCPL. Williams County Recorder Patty Rockey served as speaker for the annual Star Recorder Chapter meeting for Montpelier Chapter #270, Women of the Moose, Thursday, Sept. 3rd. She spoke about the duties of those working in the Recorder’s office, which oversees responsibilities in the county records center and in the recorder’s office in the courthouse. The county recorder’s office maintains records regarding land and properties in the county involving deeds, liens and mortgages and assists the public and title searchers in locating pertinent records. John Joseph Kurivial, age 88, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday afternoon, September 9, 2015.  He was born March 12, 1927 in Napoleon, Ohio to John and Anna (Jurasek) Kurivial.  After graduation, John was drafted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.  On November 12, 1955, he married his beloved wife, Doris Ann Vavrik. John worked as a mechanical draftsman for Houghton Elevator in Toledo.  He later was hired by Four County Vocational School, where he taught drafting and land surveying for 10 years. …
