Gailand A. Woodward, age 71, of Montpelier, Ohio passed away late Thursday November 15, 2012 at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo following a brief illness. Mr. Woodward was retired from the US Navy. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for various Naval based Defense System companies. Mr. Woodward was born in Napoleon, Ohio on February 5, 1941 the son of the late Glen B. and the late Pauline (Goodwin) Woodward. On October 6, 1962 he married Nonnie Coopman and she survives. Juanita E. Clark, 65 of Montpelier died Friday at Parkview Medical Center in Fort Wayne Indiana. She was born July 9th 1947 in Bryan to Harvey “Jr.” and Billie Joan (Mansfield) Scott. Juanita graduated from Montpelier High School in 1965 and Stautzenberger Business College in 1966 with an executive secretary degree. Air Force Airman Jordan F. Faulhaber graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Faulhaber is the son of Lucinda Faulhaber of County Road I, Edon. He is a 2008 graduate of Edon High School.
A man in the Ukraine has had his prayers answered when a local group took a self-directed mission trip. Kristen Runyon of Fayette was one of eight that traveled this past July to visit orphanages and nursing homes for ten days in the Ukraine. At a small nursing home that was located out in the country, Kristen and her daughter Gracie met a gentleman that was confined to his bed because he was a double amputee. The Williams County Safe Communities program reports that for the third quarter of 2012 there were two fatal traffic crashes. This compares with the third quarter of 2011 reporting of no fatal traffic crashes in Williams County. An additional fatal to be reported for the fourth quarter of 2012 will bring the year to date total for Williams County to 6 fatalities for 2012 with 3 of these fatals being alcohol related. Fall is the season for harvest and unfortunately deer–vehicle accidents. Most deer-vehicle accidents occur during the months of October, November and December. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety; Ohio Traffic Crash Facts 2009-2011, Paulding County recorded 229, 226, and 213 yearly deer-vehicle accidents for a total of 668 collisions during that three year period. Because deer are inclined to be active during low-light hours, a majority of deer-vehicle accidents occur at dusk and dawn as we commute to and from work according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Stryker-Wanda Jane Reynolds, age 95, of Stryker, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2012 at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center. Prior to her retirement she had worked at the Mendelson Egg Company in West Unity for 30 years. Wanda was born in Montpelier on November 2, 1917, the daughter of Arthur and Ila Mae (Todd) Biddle. In 1934 she married Gerald Shaffer and he preceded her in death in 1938. In 1943 she married Morris Reynolds, and he preceded her in death in 1978. She attended the Presbyterian Church in West Unity. Fayette veteran’s lunch at Fayette American Legion. The American Government and Social Studies classes taught by Mrs. Hintz lended a hand to the effort, greeting veteran’s at the door, taking food and drink orders, and serving them their meals. The volunteers ate last and, once everyone had their food, Alejandra Gonzalez got up and read a poem she had written for the veterans.
