Barry D. Schantz, age 67 of Wauseon, passed away at Fulton Manor on Saturday afternoon, December 31, 2016; his daughter Jaralyn’s birthday.  At the time of his passing he was surrounded by family members and loved ones.  Barry was born on August 10, 1949 in Wauseon to the late Kenneth Schantz and Magdalene (Osborne) Schantz.

After graduating from Wauseon High School in 1967, he attended Akron College where he received his Degree in Law Enforcement.  Barry served with the Delta Police Department from 1973-1994. He was a past member of the Izaak Walton Sportsman’s Club and Delta Rotary.  Barry enjoyed hobbies of camping, watching sporting events and collecting sport coats along with various others; but most of all loved to spend time with his family and granddaughters.

Barry will be missed by the family left behind, his daughter, Jaralyn (Schantz) and Terry Ford, grandchildren, Tyler Sours of McClure, Regan and Rylee Ford of Wauseon; brothers, Randy and Cinda Schantz of Saginaw, MI, Rick and Verlinda Schantz of Wauseon and Kim (Julie) Schantz of Wauseon; along with numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his daughter, Shari Kay Schantz on April 2, 1983 and former wife, Penny Sue (Spiess) Schantz on March 20, 2011.

Viewing will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 2:00 – 7:00 PM, at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta.  A funeral service for Barry will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 798 S. Shoop Ave, Wauseon, Ohio 43567 with viewing one hour prior from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church.  Interment will follow at the Wauseon Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Barry’s memory.  A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Fulton Manor for their care and compassion during Barry’s stay.  Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
