EDON (April 15, 2025) – Edon chipped away at an early 3-1 Hilltop lead to take a 4-3 lead in the fourth and held on from there to start BBC play with a 4-3 win over the Cadets.
The visitors from Hilltop struck first in the opening frame with Devin Dempsey drawing a walk on four pitches from Edon starter Christian Owens.
Owens retired the next two batters before Cameron Shimp drilled the first pitch he saw to center field for a double, bringing Dempsey around from first for a 1-0 advantage.
Edon drew even in the home half of the first as Max Radabaugh reached on an error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Owens then helped his cause with a two-out RBI single to left to score Radabaugh and tie the game 1-1.
Hilltop answered back in the second inning as Micah Rossman was hit by a pitch before Owens would retire the next two hitters with Rossman still at first.
A two-out rally commenced for Hilltop with an Anthony Jiannuzzi single to left followed by a double from Devin Dempsey to bring home Rossman and Jiannuzzi and put Hilltop in front 3-1.
Edon would begin to chip away in the third as Corbin Chrisman and Kyler Sapp each singled to start the frame.
Hilltop starter Cameron Schlosser would get an infield fly and a strikeout but after the runners moved to second and third on a passed ball, a grounder by Korbin Olds was mishandled at third which allowed Chrisman to score and make it 3-2.
Edon took the lead in the fourth with another two-out rally with Chrisman and Sapp delivering back-to-back RBI singles after a Carter Steinke single earlier in the inning to give Edon a 4-3 lead.
Hilltop threatened one final time in the fifth as a single and an error put two on with two outs, but Owens would get a strikeout to end the inning.
Owens stymied Hilltop in their last two at bats as he worked around a leadoff walk in the sixth and retired the Cadets in order in the seventh to close out the win.
Owens recorded 10 strikeouts and surrendered five hits on the hill while adding two singles and an RBI at the plate.
Schlosser took the loss for Hilltop after giving up four runs on six hits with just one of the runs being earned as Hilltop was hindered by five errors.
