Blakeslee Village Council discussed the countywide mitigation plan at its regular meeting on Wednesday, February 4.

Village Fiscal Officer Courtny Osborn presented a resolution from the Williams County Emergency Management Agency, approving and adopting the Williams County Hazard Mitigation Plan and declaring it an emergency.

“Whereas the Village of Blakeslee (Williams County) recognizes the threat that natural, human-caused, or technological hazards pose to people and property in Williams County, and whereas Williams County has prepared a multi-hazard mitigation plan, hereby known as the Williams County Hazard Mitigation Plan, in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000,” said Osborn regarding the resolution.

Osborn added that the mitigation plan identifies goals and actions to reduce or eliminate long-term risks to people and property in Williams County from the impacts of future hazards and disasters.

With a two-thirds vote required to pass, the council tabled action on the resolution until the March meeting, as two council members—Virgil Green and Linda Muehlfeld—were absent.

Once adopted, the resolution will be in full force, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, safety, and welfare of the village.

Council member Brad Dahl initiated a discussion regarding the village alleys, suggesting the use of the chip and seal method for maintenance. Dahl had already spoken to Williams County Engineer Todd Roth about the condition of the alleys and what needed to be done.

“I’ll get with Todd next week and go over a maintenance plan for the village for at least the next couple of years,” said Dahl.

Osborn presented the January financial report. Receipts were $5,779.05, and expenditures were $1,689.43. Council adjourned at 6:25 p.m. The next council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m.
