Blakeslee Village Council met in a regular session on Wednesday, June 3. Council members present were Nick Reed, Robert Mohre, Virgil Green, Linda Muehlfeld, Brad Dahl and Shelly Cox. Also, Mayor Eric Jenkins and Fiscal Officer Courtny Osborn were in attendance.
Following the approval of the May 6 meeting minutes, Osborn presented the May financial report. The village received $2,854.81 in receipts and $732.44 in expenditures.
Osborn also reported that the state audit for the village was completed last week. She told council members the village will be receiving an invoice for the audit.
The council was updated concerning a couple of properties that haven’t been maintained along with the payment of their delinquent garbage bills.
Osborn asked council if she could contact the County Auditor’s office and have them add the cost for the village for mowing the properties in addition to the $215 they already owed on their delinquent garbage bill.
Council also discussed the grant application through the Edon Area Foundation for the purchase of two speed radar signs at a cost of $8,500.
Osborn said she has the application ready to go and will give it to JoAnn Luce of the Edon Area Foundation.
The only concern, according to Osborn, is she is having an issue getting a determination letter showing the village is tax exempt.
“I’m putting a copy of my request with this along with our tax-exempt certificate, our budget and the radar sign quote,” said Osborn. “That will at least let them know that we are working on it.”
In other business, Dahl spoke to Mohre Electronics regarding the village’s siren system. He said they have no service records of the siren and need to figure out what is going on with the generator and find out how often it is supposed to be tested. The generator has been in place since the 1970s.
Dahl added there is grant money available for the village to address the concerns with the siren. He will also be contacting Edon Fire Chief Allyn Luce to see what their procedure is for their siren.
Regarding the street signs in the village, Jenkins told council the cost to replace 10 poles along with the street signs and hardware, not including installation, is $2,800. Without the poles, the cost for signs and hardware is $1,800. No action was taken.
Jenkins mentioned the county will install the poles, but the village would be charged for having them installed.
With no further action, the council then adjourned at 6:22 p.m. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 1 at 6 p.m.
