The Wauseon City Council meeting on May 17, 2021 began with the annual joint meeting with the Clinton Township Trustees. Present for the meeting were Wauseon councilors Jeff Stiriz, Scott Stiriz, Harold Stickley, Patrick Griggs and Steve Schneider along with Trustees Larry Neuenschwander and Ivan Hite.

Councilor Stickley moved and Clinton Township Trustee Hite seconded to appoint Bob Krumm to the Wauseon Union Cemetery Board for the three year term of January 2, 2022 through January 1, 2025. The vote was a unanimous positive and the joint meeting adjourned.

Mayor Kathy Huner read the EMS Proclamation declaring that the week of May 16-22 was officially known as EMS week. In committee reports, Stickley gave a brief summary on the May 11 park board meeting. He informed council that the Catch and Release signs for Rotary Park have been ordered.

The walking trail and the parking lot at Homecoming Park will be resealed this summer. Wauseon will be hosting the Swim Team Championships this year at Reighard Park on July 16- 18. The Park Board is also looking into cleaning up the weeds and debris at Biddle Park.

With no legislation on the agenda, the council moved into New Business, passing a motion to accept the contract hiring of a part time Zoning/Maintenance Code Inspector.

The mayor informed council that all permits to sell alcoholic beverages will expire on July 1, 2021 and this means that every permit holder must file a renewal application. She also said that Skye Cinema, located at 455 Airport Highway has applied for a D5 Liquor License. There were no objections.

Mayor Huner also reminded everyone that the Taco Tuesday Fundraiser was the next day, May 18 at the Church of Wauseon and the Firecracker 5K was scheduled for 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 27.

Pictures were shared of some children putting in six hours of work over the weekend as part of the Wauseon Beautification Team and Huner thanked all who were involved.

Council approved the payment of the bills and the minutes of the previous meeting before moving into Executive Session to discuss the purchase or sale of property and certain personnel matters involving public employees or official’ compensation.

There was no action taken and with no further business, the meeting adjourned.
