BRYAN CITY COUNCIL: Council Discusses Food Truck Regulations

On March 7, 2022 the Bryan City Council called the meeting to order. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. Then council approved the minutes from the February meeting.


Next up, council addressed public concerns. Scott Bard shared his concern about food truck regulations.

His concern addresses why regulations need to be passed at all and wants council to support food trucks and not pass any more regulations on this topic.

In other business, Resolution #17 allows the Chief of Police to apply for grants through the City of Bryan. Chief Ruskey addresses council about his need to apply for a grant for bullet proof vests for his officers. Council approved the Resolution.

Next up was Resolution #18 stating the treasure to advertise for bids for the 2022 Noble Drive improvements.


Brian Wieland addresses council on wanting to improve the city street on Noble Drive. Estimation is around $250,000, Wieland wants council to suspend rules allowing him to advertise for bids. Council approved.

Next up, Ordinance #10 2022, amend Bryan municipal code section 773, adding regulations pertaining to food trucks. Third reading of this ordinance.

During discussion council addresses Mr. Bard about his concerns. Mayor Carrie Schlade, addressed the concerns explaining how the need for regulations started.

Inconsistencies in regulations and, safety issues with parking of previous food trucks. The public was also asking about regulations pertaining to their food trucks and council responded. Council approved 4-1 with Mary Leatherman, Ward 1, against background checks in new regulations.


Next up was the annual 2021 Police Report with Chief Ruskey. Chief intends to have a detective on staff by the end of March 2022.

Council member, John Betts, Ward 3, invited public to come with questions and concerns on April 4, 2022 council meeting to discuss changes to trash pickup. The final vote will be on April 18, 2022.

Council moved into executive session to discuss acquisition of property.
