(Graz, Austria) – Soprano Veronica Richer made her debut performance at the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz with a performance alongside the AIMS Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Lukas Beikircher.

Bryan-area native Veronica Richer’s career as an opera singer comes down to one thing: love. “Whether I’m feeling positively or negatively, I still have the urge to sing”, said Richer, who was born in Bryan and attended Bryan High School. “It’s something I always turn to for comfort and happiness, and I feel grateful to do what I love.”

At 28 years old, she’s already turned that love into a list of accomplishments. She is a resident artist at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia and works consistently with AVA’s opera theatre.

Richer was recently favorably reviewed by David Fox (Parterre Box) for her performance in AVA’S production of “The Rape of Lucretia” in Philadelphia. And now she’s in Graz, Austria singing in AIM’S sold-out Puccini performance.

The concert featured a gala repertoire of Puccini works, including “Senza Mamma” from Sour Angelica. Richer captivated the audience with her melodious middle register and radiant silver sound in the high register, accompanied by Beikircher expert direction.

Gustavo Halley, faculty and voice mentor at AIMS, praised Richer for her stage talent, agility in movement, facial expressions, and very capable voice.

Gustavo noted that “Richer’s Italian articulation was just as accurate as her German, and that she had a twinkle in her eye when it came to textual blossoms.

In Puccini aria from Suor Angelica, Richer was able to show her talent for theatrical expression, accompanied breathlessly and never too loudly by Beikircher.”

AIMS is a one-of-a-kind experience in Europe for opera singers. The program goes beyond university education and conservatory training, focusing on early identification and promotion of talent in the context of orchestral and lieder repertoire performances. Richer performed and trained with renowned European conductors, teachers and vocal coaches.

Veronica Richer and the AIMS Orchestra’s performance at Musikverein für Steiermark 2024 in Graz Austria was a musical triumph, marking a memorable moment in both Veronica Richer’s rising career and Graz’s continued opera history.

AIMS’s dedication to developing opera talent is a testament to the positive impact that music education can have on individuals and society as a whole.
