A local Bryan TOPS Club member has been awarded the title of 2020 King for the State of Ohio. TOPS “royalty” are men and woman who, at the end of the year, have lost the most amount of weight.
There is no time limit with which a person has to lose the weight as long as it was within the year. The title goes to Scott Boulis who lost a total of 70 pounds.
Scott Boulis and others started the local chapter around a year and a half ago and have since been meeting at the Bryan Assembly of God Church for weekly meetings. The members meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday’s and hold a private weigh in.
After the weigh in the group has a half hour meeting followed by discussions with the other members. “The weigh-in is a kind of personal accountability for yourself. It helps to see where you are going.”
“Over the course of a year or two you start getting a real knowledge that will help you to change the lifestyle and you take in more of what you’re learning. It is a time to get together with people that have a like-minded focus, you’re all trying to be healthier,” said Mr. Boulis.
Meetings usually focus on a certain subject such as the importance of sleep and reducing stress and why that is important.
The meeting topics change with each meeting in order to help people with what they may be dealing with. The club dues are only $36 a year with a weekly due of $1 to help pay for the meeting. Currently the club has 12 members and is looking for many more people to join.
“We really do try to help one another. We are here for everyone in the community. Anyone struggling with health issues, stress, anxiety, or even just wanting to get a few pounds off, we are here, and we want to help,” said Mr. Boulis.
Visitors are able to attend their first TOPS in-person meetings free of charge in order to meet everyone and see how the club operates.
TOPS is a non-profit and was founded in 1948 and has since grown to over 180,000 members at over 10,000 chapters. Anyone looking to join is welcomed to come to the next meeting.
