Bryan Rotary Welcomes Guest Speaker Jody Freeman Of The Bryan Area Foundation

Bryan Rotary Club met virtually on Friday, March 5, 2021, and welcomed guest speaker Jody Freeman, Bryan Area Foundation, who passionately spoke about a fantastic group of women.

Although many articles have been written about Power in the Purse (PIP), it bears reminding everyone of this group’s successful accomplishments through engagement in collective giving by investing and building in our community.

The forging of the women’s giving circle took shape when like-minded individuals came together and engaged the collective’s power.

For more than five years, the Bryan Area Foundation initiative PIP has actively supported nonprofits in Williams County.

Every quarter, a chosen nonprofit receives an average of $6,000, with more than $125,000 awarded thus far to 21 nonprofit organizations in Williams County.

Williams County Habitat for Humanity was the latest recipient in the first quarter of 2021. With 106 members from diverse backgrounds and different generations, who gather for one hour, four times a year to learn about various inspiring projects, much has been accomplished.

All women of Williams County are encouraged to join this empowering group with membership costing $250 per annum (paid in installments, if needed), $50 of which goes to the endowment fund to guarantee future support in the community.

The remaining membership funds go to four nonprofit organizations in Williams County elected by members. With the financial support of many local companies and the administrative support of the Bryan Area Foundation, PIP has helped meet the community’s needs.

If interested, further information, and a membership form, can be obtained from bryanareafoundation.org/power-in-the-purse.

Bryan Rotary Club thanked Jody Freeman for her informative presentation and will donate a book in her honor to the Williams County Public Library.

The club’s next virtual meeting on Friday, March 12, will host guest speakers Teresa Maynard and Cheryl Andres discussing the Alive After 5 program.
