DISTRICT RUNNER-UP … Bryan’s Griffin Diaz totaled 380.45 points to finish as Division II district runner-up to qualify for the state diving competition in Canton.
BOWLING GREEN (February 20, 2026) – A total of eleven individuals and five relay teams will be packing their bags for Canton this week following the Division II district swim competition at Bowling Green State University.
Leading the area contingent is Bryan’s Nora Kunsman who claimed a pair of district titles winning the 50 freestyle (23.04) and 100 freestyle (51.99).
Bryan also qualified a pair of relay teams. The 200 freestyle relay of Annie Kunsman, Nadia Moore, Emma Elkins and Nora Kunsman qualified with a fifth place time of 1:42.98. The 200 medley relay of Nora Kunsman, Elkins, Jalyn Mojica and Annie Kunsman qualified with a runner-up finish in 1:50.42.
Three other area athletes qualified for state in diving. Kali Spengler of Wauseon was third (403.00). Taylor Schultheis of Wauseon was eighth (337.55) and Kamryn Mills of Bryan was 12th (279.20).
Other top area finishers included Elkins who placed 12th in the 100 breast (1:12.14) and Mojica who placed 12th in the 100 fly (1:05.47).
In the boys division, Bryan finished as district runner-up in the team standings behind district champion Ontario.
The Golden Bears qualified two individuals in Griffin Boehm who finished sixth in the 100 back (55.01), and Joshua Sampson also placed sixth in the 500 freestyle (4:57.32).
Bryan also qualified all three of its relay teams to state. The 200 freestyle relay of Logan Slattery, Boehm, Carter Luce and Brendan Roberts finished as district runner-up in 1:29.44. The 200 medley relay of Boehm, Slattery, Roberts and Luce placed sixth (1:40.30) and the 400 freestyle relay of Zac Schafer, Roberts, Luce and Will McCann also placed sixth (3:22.41).
Other top finishers for the Golden Bears were Luce who placed sixth in the 50 freestyle (22.79). Slattery (1:49.40) and Sampson (1:50.94) finished seventh and ninth respectively in the 200 freestyle.
McCann finished 11th in the 100 freestyle (49.78) and 200 medley (1:05.82) and Roberts placed ninth in the 100 fly (55.81).
The Golden Bears also qualified a pair of divers to state. Griffin Diaz was runner-up with 380.45 points and Ethan Bailey placed third with 373.30 points.
Wauseon’s Malachi Reeder also earned his ticket to state with a pair of top three finishes.
Reeder grabbed district runner-up honors in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.35. He followed it with a third place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.16 seconds.
The Indians also had a pair of divers qualified for state competition. Tristan Burkholder finished fourth with 342.35 points and Tucker Hall was eighth with 282.90 points.
The Division II boys diving competition was held on Tuesday, February 24 and the girls competition was held on Wednesday, February 25.
On Thursday, the Division II boys and girls swimming preliminaries will get underway at 5 p.m.
