Carman Oxender (1934-2019)

Carman J. Oxender, 85, of Pioneer passed away Tuesday morning at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.  She was born on August 6, 1934 in Angola, Indiana to Clyde O. and Dimmie (Cook) Hagelberger.

Carman graduated from Kunkle High School in 1952. On September 16, 1956 she married Raymond B. Oxender  in Kunkle and he preceded her in death in 2006.

In 1995 after 43 years of employment Carman retired from ARO Tru Corp. in Bryan. She also assisted her husband with farming in Madison Township until 1998.

Carman is survived by sister-in-law Marcelle Hagelberger and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Maxine Moore and Mildred Shultz, brother Forrest Hagelberger, brothers-in-law Clayton Moore and Joe Shultz, two nephews, one niece and one great niece.


Visitation for Carman will be on Saturday, December 28th from 10am-12pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be at 12 pm at the funeral home with Reverend Thomas Steensma to officiate. Interment will follow at Shiffler Cemetery in rural Bryan.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of West Unity or CHP- Hospice. To send flowers to Carman’s family, please visit our floral section.
