Carolynne Foust (1942-2020)

Carolynne Kay Foust, 78 years, of Bryan passed away Monday, June 22, 2020 in her residence. She was born March 13, 1942 in Bryan, Ohio the daughter of the late Darwin A. and M. Isabelle (West) Clappe.

Carolynne was a 1960 graduate of Bryan High School and continued her education at Fort Wayne Bible College, now known as Taylor University, obtaining degrees in Religion and Education.

She married Gerald Wayne Foust on August 11, 1973 in Bryan, Ohio. Carolynne was a teacher at Central Local Schools. She spent one year teaching at King’s School in Hawaii and returned to teaching at Central Local Schools, retiring in 1996. After retirement she taught at Northwest State Community College for 10 years.

Carolynne was active at Christian & Missionary Alliance Church and Calvary United Methodist Church in Williams Center. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Delta Zeta Teachers Sorority and the gardening club. Carolynne hosted the Prayer Breakfast and organized the Class of 1960 class reunions.


She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. In her free time, Carolynne played the piano, flower gardened with her husband, Gerald and enjoyed traveling to Florida.

Carolynne is survived by her two children, Courtney (Gabor) Hodacs of Cumming, Georgia and Curt (Amy) Foust of Bowling Green, Ohio; two twin granddaughters, Reid Caroline Foust and Quinn Diane Foust; one brother, D. James (Deborah) Clappe of Fort Wayne, Indiana; one sister, Nancy (Gary) Olix of Chardon, Ohio; Five nieces, Megan Clappe, Whitney (Nate) Clappe-Utesch, Lindsay Olix, Ashleigh (Carrie Houts) Olix and Kelly (Kyle) Wonderly; four nephews, Justin (Terri) Olix, Wesley Clappe and Vincent Clappe and Daniel (Rebekah) Painter. Carolynne was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Larry D. Clappe.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, private family graveside services will be held at Fountain Grove Cemetery. A celebration of Carolynne’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan.


The family asks those remembering Carolynne to make memorial contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the American Heart Association.
